Nike releases Air Max 90 City Pack in BSMNT collab

04 Oct 2019

Glasgow. Manchester. London. Some of the UK’s most creative hubs are being honoured in one of Nike’s most time-tested silhouettes.

As a collaboration project with BSMNT, the Air Max 90 City Pack launches 5 October, with Glasgow marking its inaugural pair.

This isn’t Nike’s first hook up with Basement Approved and follows the phenomenal success on the 2017 Nike Dunk Low.

In its release info, Nike says: “Part of the heritage is owed to an embrace in Europe, where the Air Max 90 has become synonymous with creative community across the continent and within Great Britain.

“The Nike BSMNT Air Max 90 City Pack is all about channelling that historic energy.”

A donation from the collaboration is going to Youth Futures organisation, providing mentorship programmes to London youngsters.

Nike Air Max 90 City Pack release

The Glasgow – October 5

Meandering a southwards route from Scotland, the Glasgow edition celebrates the evolving cityscape, with its dark grey upper, heavy duty ripstop and orange lumo accents to reflect highway traffic cones.

Nike says: “The plush leather safety orange tongue and retro-reflective Swoosh and heel tab are inspired by the iconic traffic cone placed upon the head of the Duke Of Wellington statue in Glasgow’s city centre.”

The Manchester – October 12

The next iteration offers more technical functionality to reflect the proposition of arguably the UK’s most industrious city.

The Manchester is a different proposition, with a slick black upper for after dark is pronounced by fluoro green swoosh reflecting one of this seasons most prevalent trends. Wrapped in two weights of hardwearing and water-resistant Cordura, this pair features a quarter panel in black 3M, webbing and pull-tab system.

The London – October 19

Reaching the capital, the last chapter is a lighter, more playful render. With its premium materials and five subtle grey hues, you could be forgiven for thinking this sneaker is the subtlest of the triptych.

Yet its stealthy, velcro Swoosh can be amplified by a choice of four detachable Swooshes — White Patent, Dark Grey Corduroy, Pearlescent or the eye-catching Yellow 3M.

“The shoe takes inspiration from the ever-evolving city of London and its restless, creative power,” says Nike, adding: “Five tones of gray in an array of premium materials create a harmonious balance that simultaneously reflects the human and architectural diversity of the city.”

A donation from the collaboration is going to Youth Futures organisation, providing mentorship programmes to London youngsters.
